Translators
Not at all! If you are multilingual and you are willing to collaborate helping displaced people communicate, you are welcome :) One thing to bear in mind is that you will be asked to carry out a simultaneous translation; therefore, your knowledge of the indicated languages is expected to be high enough.
Don’t panic, language is not an exact science. All the community must understand that special dialects or accents come into play and nobody can guarantee he/she will be able to overcome all difficulties. Apologize kindly and suggest that the volunteer tries with another translator.
Good news, there is no minimum time or availability. Your cooperation is something you offer selflessly for free so only you decide when you are available. Do not dismiss the idea of helping just because you will not be able to dedicate a lot of time to this project. A lot of “little moments” from many collaborators will make a great difference. With just one click you can change your status from ‘available’ to ‘not available’ easily and immediately.

Definitely yes! The best thing about VENTO.TV/refugees is that it is a mobile proposal. You can download our Android App or use our Web Application and show yourself ‘available’ at anytime/anywhere with no need for anything but your smartphone (and languages expertise, of course! ;).

*IOS users: we expect to have an app for you soon as well. We are working on it!
Being able to see your interlocutor is definitely of great help when communicating in foreign languages. But circumstances are not always ideal and sometimes you might prefer not to show your surroundings. You can disconnect your camera easily at any time just by clicking on the indicated button. Or you can change your settings to start any call with your camera disconnected and switch it on only when you wish.

You appear in the available List of Translators of VENTO.TV/refugees because you have selected the business type “Volunteer Translator”.
To appear in the Business List (in the commercial section) you only have to go to your administration menu at VENTO.TV and select a new business type in your business’ profile.

Volunteers / Displaced people :
Certainly not :) Only translators need to sign in and choose to show their availability. You just need to visit our website or download our Android App. Search for the desired languages and check if there are available translators. You will only be “a click” away from establishing an immediate video call with them.

Our first suggestion is to check if you can run a plan B. Do you speak other languages? Maybe you can find an available translator that knows the refugee mother tongue and another language you can understand. Give yourself a try!
If a plan B is not possible either, there is no other way than trying at a different time.
This project does not offer official translations/interpretations but a possibility to get immediate informal help under everyday situations. If you are facing trouble at official institutions, legal affairs, etc, please look for certified translators who can offer official recognition.
